Kidney Function in Humans

How to work kidney in human body.

The kidneys are a pair of organs located in the abdominal cavity on either side of the spine. They are responsible for filtering the blood and eliminating waste products, excess electrolytes, and excess fluids from the body in the form of urine.

  1. Blood from the renal arteries enters the kidneys and is filtered by tiny structures called nephrons. Each kidney has about 1 million nephrons.
  2. Each nephron consists of a filtering unit called the glomerulus and a tubule. The glomerulus filters the blood, and the tubule reabsorbs useful substances back into the bloodstream and removes waste products.
  3. The filtered blood then passes through the renal vein and is returned to the circulatory system.
  4. The waste products and excess fluids that are not reabsorbed by the tubules are collected in the renal pelvis and pass out of the body through the ureters, which are tubes that connect the kidneys to the bladder.
  5. The bladder stores the urine until it is full, and then it is eliminated from the body through the urethra.
  6. The kidneys also play a role in regulating blood pressure, electrolyte balance, and the production of red blood cells. They are essential for maintaining overall health and well-being.
