Types and Causes of Diabetes

Types and Causes of Diabetes.

Diabetes is a chronic medical condition in which the body is unable to properly regulate the level of sugar (glucose) in the blood. There are two main types of diabetes:

Type 1 diabetes:

This type of diabetes is caused by an autoimmune disorder, in which the body's immune system mistakenly attacks and destroys the cells in the pancreas that produce insulin. As a result, the body is unable to produce enough insulin to regulate blood sugar levels, leading to high blood sugar levels. Type 1 diabetes is typically diagnosed in children and young adults, and it is treated with insulin injections or an insulin pump.

Type 2 diabetes:

This type of diabetes is caused by a combination of factors, including insulin resistance (when the body does not use insulin effectively) and a relative deficiency of insulin production. Type 2 diabetes is the most common form of diabetes, and it is often associated with being overweight or obese, physically inactive, and having a family history of diabetes. It can be treated with a combination of lifestyle changes (such as diet and exercise) and medication, such as oral diabetes medications or insulin injections.

Both types of diabetes can lead to serious health complications if left untreated, including heart disease, nerve damage, kidney damage, blindness, and amputations. It is important for people with diabetes to manage their blood sugar levels carefully and follow their treatment plan to reduce the risk of these complications.
