DR.ABDUL QADEER KHAN


Dr. Abdul Qadeer Khan was the Pakistani scientist who made Pakistan a nuclear power and made Pakistan famous all over the world. Dr. Abdul Qadeer Khan has been given the title of Mohsin Pakistan.

Pakistani scientist and creator of the Pakistani atomic bomb was born on April 27, 1936, in Bhopal, India, to an Urdu-speaking Pashtun family.

His father's name was Abdul Ghafoor and his mother's name was Zulaikha. When Pakistan came into being in 1947, they migrated from India to Pakistan. In Pakistan, they  settled in Karachi.

He holds a degree in Physics from Karachi University. He later moved to Europe and returned to Pakistan in 1976 after studying at the West Berlin Technical University of Leuven for 15 years. Abdul Qadeer Khan received his Master of Science from the Netherlands and his Doctorate of Engineering from Belgium.

In 1976, Pakistan's Prime Minister Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto launched a program to make Pakistan's defense invincible, known as the Pakistani nuclear program. On May 31, 1976, at the invitation of Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto, he participated in the Pakistani nuclear program of Engineering Research Laboratories. Later, the name of this institute was changed by the President of Pakistan General Zia-ul-Haq on May 1, 1981 to Dr. AQ Khan Research Laboratories. It is a major player in uranium enrichment in Pakistan. Dr. Abdul Qadeer Khan founded Kixat in November 2000.

Abdul Qadeer Khan was falsely prosecuted by the Dutch government for stealing important information, but professors from the Netherlands, Belgium, the United Kingdom and Germany, after reviewing the allegations, recommended acquittal. A case has been registered against him for stealing information. He is in public books after which the Dutch Supreme Court acquitted him.

Abdul Qadeer Khan is a renowned scientist who astonished the world's renowned Nobel Prize-winning scientists by installing a nuclear plant in a very short span of eight years.

By 1998, Dr. Abdul Qadeer Khan had developed a nuclear weapon. For which he requested the then Prime Minister Mian Muhammad Nawaz Sharif that now is the time for us to show our strength to the whole world. It was May 1998 when you asked Prime Minister Mian Muhammad Nawaz Sharif to carry out a test nuclear test in the face of India's nuclear tests. Eventually, the then Prime Minister Mian Muhammad Nawaz Sharif caused a stir all over the world by detonating six successful nuclear tests at Chaghi. On this occasion, Abdul Qadeer Khan sent a message to the whole world that we have made Pakistan's defense invincible. That's how you became popular all over the world. Happiness was celebrated all over the Islamic world after the atomic bombing. It was a day like Eid for the Muslim Ummah. The Grand Mufti of Saudi Arabia called Abdul Qadeer Khan a hero of the Islamic world and issued a decree to provide free crude oil to Pakistan. Since then, crude oil has been supplied free of charge by Pakistan and Saudi Arabia. He has also written more than fifty-one scientific research articles. In 1993, Dr. Abdul Qadeer Khan was awarded the honorary degree of Doctor of Science by the University of Karachi. Dr. Abdul Qadeer Khan has also set up a welfare organization called Sechet which is active in educational and other welfare activities.

Dr. Abdul Qadeer Khan was affected by Covid-19 a few weeks ago and passed away on 10-10-2021. His funeral prayers were offered at Faisal Masjid Islamabad and he was buried at Faisal Masjid Islamabad.
